It’s been a bit of a rollercoaster ride over the past few weeks in the Midday Musings household. A combination of timing, itchy feet, and unfulfilled dreams have collided and resulted in my decision to throw in the towel at my stable, well-paying, incredibly accommodating and supportive workplace — simply to go walkabout for a few months and then try my hands at freelance writing.
It hasn’t been an easy decision, but even though I’m giving up things that most people (and yes, this includes me) consider important — income, health insurance, a stable environment — I can’t pretend that I’m not excited. Mr Midday Musings has time off for a large chunk of the year and we are both eager to explore more of North and Central America, with the current plan for us to travel from June to October. On our return, there will be a few trips back to Australia for family weddings (including ours!) and I plan to properly commit to my writing and editing work.
So this blog will be undergoing a few changes! Stay tuned. It’ll still have the same travel and lifestyle focus as before, but perhaps get a facelift and be written from slightly more far-flung places… and hopefully will be updated more frequently!
I’m generally fairly risk adverse so this whole idea has taken awhile for me to wrap my head around. I’d love to know — when have you taken the leap into the unknown? Let me know — I think I still need some inspiration!
I’m getting close to taking that leap, but am too scared! Going from a well paying and stable Finance job to being a Realtor working my butt off for commissions, yikes!
Glad you got off your itchy feet. I will let you know if/when I do. Hopefully not too long.
Good luck! Sometimes I think you just have to start… Hope it all works out for you!
